Sport in Finland is not so different than in Germany but there are little differences which are very interesting.Sport is not so important in the every day life. I was told by a Finn that they mostly go to the gym. At the schoolyard they have many possibilities, for example a soccer field or basketball court. In Tampere there are also many possibilities for doing sport like an outdoor gym or a Callisthenics place and there are also have soccer fields and stadions for that.In the sports lesson they do the same things as in Germany but they don’t play handball or volleyball. On the other hand they do play Finnish baseball and play ice hockey when the weather is cold enough also outside. That means that they play indoor in a hall or outdoor on the outdoor field or on the lake.Ice hockey in Finnland is the most popular sport. Ice hockey has the same importance as soccer in Germany. They have one big ice hockey arena called Nokia Arena. They have two home teams named Ilves and Tappara. They both play games in the Nokia Arena. The fans in Finland are friendly to each other. When the two home teams play against each other, the fans cheer for their teams during the match and after the match they don’t fight against each other like in Germany after a soccer game. The Finns also have a fun traditional sport named Wife carrying”, which takes place once a year.In this traditional sport the men have to carry their wife’s on their backs and run obstacle parkour in the fastest time they can.
